How does a Registered Agent Service work? & Why is it important?

Business owners are required to list a contact source on their business filings. This info is publicly listed and very easy to acquire. As a result, business owners are targeted by scammers which can make running your business more difficult and costly. Our registered agent service reduces these types of hassles by allowing you to be anonymous on the public records.

Hundreds of Satisfied Customers

We’ve worked with Rob and Alan at Tax Time. They are both very professional and knowledgeable.  We are very happy with their work. Thank you so much for helping us with our taxes!

Candice

The team over at Tax Time has done my taxes and they got me a great refund.  The office staff was very kind and personable and Rob did my taxes. Just so you know — they give you this really nice gift after you are all done.  The process was pretty painless and despite the fact that I had a few complicated issues, they got everything to work out. In fact, there was a point during the process that Rob started to give me advise on what to do in the future to help save money on taxes — I can’t thank him enough.  He probably saved me from having to pay taxes on about $300k — now that’s the type of accountant and tax person that you want. So if you need accounting, payroll services or taxes done, come here because they sure have taken care of me.

Frequently Asked Questions

The worst question is the one that goes unasked. The new tax cuts and jobs act has been the largest tax overhaul in 30 years. Listed below are just a few of the questions we hear regularly.

How do I know if I have to file a tax return?

This depends on many factors but for most people, the main thing to look at is your gross income. A few examples are: if you have single filing status and you make $12,000+, you are the Head of Household and you make $18,000+, you are married filing jointly and you make $24,000+, or married filing separately and you make $5+. See Publication 501 for more questions pertaining to this topic.

What income do I have to pay taxes on?

The IRS requires taxes to be paid on all earned income. Earned income includes: self-employment income, W-2 income, 1099 income, retirement distributions, sales of stock, rental income, sales of certain assets, cash transactions and more.  Earned income does not include Social Security benefits unless it is combined with other income such as retirement income or other wages.

What tax changes have been made for the 2018 tax year?

The tax system has been revamped and many, many changes have been made. Here is a short list of some of the more prominent changes:

  • Personal Exemption amounts are now $0.
  • Most families with kids at home will now pay tax on a higher taxable income.
  • Child tax credits have been increased.
  • Most businesses can receive a 20% deduction on their business earnings, a substantial tax savings.
  • Employee expenses are no longer deductible.

We are here to help you navigate these! Contact us for more information.

I heard the personal exemption is gone, who can I claim as a dependent?

A dependent is a person that you are responsible for supporting. Dependents can be your children, spouse, or relatives.

  • If you support your child for more than half of the year, you can usually claim them.
  • Divorce decrees typically state which parent is able to claim the kids.
  • A relative who lives with you all year may qualify.

There are specific situations that can change any one of these examples and should be used as a starting point and not an end-all answer to your specific tax situation. Call us with further questions.
